SENIOR WASTEBUSTERS

Argh! There be treasure!

  • We often put things in the bin without thinking about how else we could use them.
  • Watch the videos to see how to use recyclable treasures you can find at home to make a pirate ship and treasure island.
  •
  • Then have a go at making your own!

Grownups Guide

Wastebusters would encourage parents to consider how children’s crafts can be recycled once you no longer need or want them.

  • – Be sure to take the items apart, and ensure everything is clean, dry and loose before recycling them
  • – Check your local waste facilities about what items go in which bin
  • – Consider going as eco as possible (eco alternatives are available such as bamboo paint brushes, soy crayons, homemade playdough & glue, paper straws, recycled card)
  • – Never use glitter (that can make items unrecyclable)
  • – Use eco tape – this is recyclable (plastic sticky tape is not) and eco-paint
  • – And don’t forget to remove any metal objects such as staples

Eco-tip! We have made paper mache in our Treasure Island. When it is made with flour and water it isn’t recyclable afterwards but it can be composted!

Upload a photo or a video of your treasure island or your pirate ship, or both and you could win a Wastebuster Bumper Pack!
